Redding Firefighters are asking you to consider Do Redding Firefighters are asking you to consider Don & Debbie Andrews.

Don is a local dozer operator who lost his home during the Park Fire while working suppression operations on a separate fire, he has since been reassigned to the Park Incident. While away his wife, Debbie, had enough time to load a vehicle and their 3 dogs before the Park Fire impacted their home.

Don is a long term operator, having started in 1987 on the Fountain Fire, an incident that put Shasta County of the statewide fire map. Since then it seems as if at some point in someone’s career they will find themselves in Shasta County wondering if it’s always this hot, this steep, and if fires are as intense as they encounter. The answer is, yes. Always. He is the brother of Redding Fire LODD Fire Captain Ed Andrews, and uncle to Acting Fire Captain Eddie Andrews. In 2018 he was actively working suppression operations during the Carr Fire and was involved in the burn over that took Brother Jeremy Stoke from us.

Please consider helping Don and his family. A gofundme has been established by their family to assist them during this trying time.

Please join Redding Firefighters in remembering Br Please join Redding Firefighters in remembering Brother Jeremy Stoke.

6 years ago we lost Jeremy during the Carr Fire. The story has been told many times; if you’ve never heard it, it’s worth learning about a man and his dedication to his family, his brothers, his department and his community. In short it is one the ultimate stories of dedication to duty and sacrifice you will ever hear.

Much has changed since then. The Redding Fire Department has grown to more than 100 members across all Divisions, many of them having never met Jeremy or his family.

Recently Caleb Stoke stopped by Station 6, said hey to the guys, helped roll hose after probie engineer testing, and filled guys in on his life. A recent fire academy graduate Caleb is beginning his own journey into a fire service career. He currently works with a local fire district as a Firefighter and is in the process of entering the EMS world as an ambulance operator. He’s no longer the little kid running around in flip flops bringing his Dad a Dr.Pepper, wrestling around and falling over. He is his own man now.

As time passes we transition from feelings of sadness over the loss of Jeremy to that of hope as we watch Caleb and Aubrey grow, as we watch Alyson heal and as new members join and we pass along the stories of our Brother Jeremy. The Redding Fire Family continues to grow and we hope you will join us in remembering Jeremy and celebrating the accomplishments of his children.

Always waiting on one.

A quick glimpse at some of the incidents Redding F A quick glimpse at some of the incidents Redding Firefighters have encountered so far this summer. With plenty of summer and fire season remaining Redding Firefighters have responded to numerous working residential structure fires, commercial structure fires, vehicle fires, vegetation fires and deployed out of county to assist with large scale incidents. Within the last 4 weeks, during record high temperatures reaching 119 degrees, Redding Firefighters have responded to 38 working fires, many of them being held with first alarm resources.

Personnel continue to return to the City, cover stations and supplement city response capabilities. New personnel and probationary firefighters are certainly getting their fair share of experience and exposure to fire incidents.

Fire season is here, be safe!

Redding Firefighters wish you a fun, safe, happy I Redding Firefighters wish you a fun, safe, happy Independence Day celebration!

Fire season is here, multiple fires each day throughout the entire state of California have committed Redding Firefighters and their cooperators to suppression efforts with a lot of summer left to go. Please help us by practicing these simple safety tips:

-All fireworks are illegal in Shasta County. Fire Prevention is fully staffed and working with RPD to actively investigate illegal fireworks calls.

-Responsibly enjoy your celebration with friends and family. With the current heat wave monitor yourself and those around you for signs of heat stress and dehydration. Wear loose clothing, consume water, stay cool.

-Shascom, RFD, RPD, Cal Fire and our EMS partners will be incredibly busy today, please be mindful of your actions and the effects they have on an already busy system.

Have fun, be safe, enjoy your friends and family, and stay cool.

This week the Redding Fire Department is conductin This week the Redding Fire Department is conducting promotional testing for the position of Fire Captain. The Fire Engineers participating in the assessment center have honed their skills; studying Department policies ans practices, simulated their role as on Officer, sitting “right seat” and assuming the Officer’s role with their assigned Company, while studying tactics, operational skills and shadowing seasoned Company Officers.

The Fire Captain assessment is stressful, as it should be. Successful candidates will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively supervise a company of professional firefighters, meeting the needs of the public regardless of call type, all while providing high quality customer service, professionalism, and solution minded problem solving.

Please wish them luck as they undergo rigorous testing to become your next generation of Redding Fire Captains.

Earlier this morning, approximately 25 min after s Earlier this morning, approximately 25 min after shift exchange Engine 7 was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire within the Mutual Threat Zone (MTZ). The alarm was quickly modified to a structure fire based on additional reported information, the crew changed from Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing for vegetation fires and turned out (structure fire apparel) in preparation for a structure fire.

@calfireshu Battalion 2413 was first at scene, sized up the incident for Redding ECC and incoming resources. Engine 7 arrived next and was assigned fire attack. The Captain and Firefighter advanced a hoseline to the garage and quickly suppressed the fire, additional arriving crews arrived and supported fire attack, water supply and took action on the exterior fire that had spread into the structure.

The probationary firefighter assigned to Engine 7 had his first interior fire attack less than 25 hours into his RFD career! Solid work by all to quickly mitigate the situation and prevent further extension into the house.

Memorial Day Murph. Yesterday, Redding Firefight Memorial Day Murph.

Yesterday, Redding Firefighters at various stations started their Memorial Day with a workout well known to first responders, “Murph”, a WOD named after Lt. Michael Murphy (KIA 6/28/05). The workout is simple, but requires participants to push themselves to their max capacity as they progress through the exercises.

Also pictured are the remaining 10 probationary firefighter candidates completing their final WOD, the Stoke Hero workout, the night before they received their badges at their badge pinning ceremony welcoming them to the Redding Fire Department.

The workouts are simple, but the concept is great. They are named after fallen service personnel or lost brothers who gave their all in the line of duty. They paid the ultimate sacrifice so that others may live, we do these workouts to honor them, their effort and their sacrifice. Join us, do the same, and honor those who are no longer with us, but by their actions have saved so many.

Please join Redding Firefighters in congratulating Please join Redding Firefighters in congratulating Brother Jim Bryant on his retirement. Jim began his fire service career as an EMT with AMR Shasta in 1995 and as a volunteer firefighter with Shasta County Fire the same year. He was hired as a seasonal/paid-call firefighter for the Redding Fire Department in 1997 and then hired as a full-time firefighter in 2000. Jim promoted to the rank of Captain in 2008 and has filled that role at numerous stations until his retirement from Station 2.

Jim came from an era where firemen also doubled as tradesmen and worked as a flooring and carpet installer. Several stations still bear his handiwork, as do the homes of some members. Congratulations Jim! We’ll miss you. There’s always a cup of coffee here for you whenever you stop by.

Be safe, be well and we’ll see you around.

Early this morning, right around shift change, Red Early this morning, right around shift change, Redding Firefighters were dispatched to a commercial structure fire in District 8. The first arriving Battalion Chief made contact with the motel manager and was able to identify the room creating the alarm. As units began to arrive tactical assignments were made, Engine 8 forced the door to the affected room and located a small fire within the room. Additional units were assigned to search for extension in adjoining rooms and to determine if any other occupants were affected by the fire.

Ultimately the fire was held to the room of origin, one adult male was treated for smoke inhalation and the incident was terminated.

This incident serves as a good reminder of the need for working smoke detectors and other fire alerting and suppression systems.

Since that time he worked @calfireshu Valley Battalion for several years before returning to the City. Not so ironically Chase is back to where it all started, 10 years later he is assigned to Station 1, La Casa Grande. Chase has several collateral duties including assisting with the sizing, purchase, care and maintenance of PPE for nearly 100 operations personnel. He also creates and produces the annual RFD end of the year video, commemorating the events of the year for future generations of Redding Firefighters (internal distribution only).
